Is this silly? I was thinking of going through all my old free patterns and making pdfs I could sell for like a buck on ravelry. The little fee would cover my time & trouble if you want a printer-friendly copy, but the free pattern would still be here for anyone who didn’t want to fork out any dough. What do you think? Is that stupid? I guess I could try it and see….
Also, Spring Yarn School is almost full, so if you want in, you should hop to it.
I think that’s a good idea– I always want to contribute when I see the free patterns so this is perfect in my opinion. :o)
I think it’s a great idea. Your regular blog subscribers would be rewarded with the free version but you could make a little money off of your creativity. Go for it!
I think it’s a great idea. I am currently knitting your Woodland Shawl pattern and would have happily paid standard prices for it. Your patterns and instructions are fab!
I made your Pebble twice already (it’s on Rav), and adore it. $1 cannot be an obstacle for anyone I think, so go for it!
Another option would perhaps be to ask for a dollar-donation if the knitter is happy with the pattern and/or end result, would that work? That way you wouldn’t have the confusion of the same pattern with-and-without price tag.
It’s not silly but you might want to go a little higher, or else there won’t be anything left after the Paypal fees.
I agree with Alexandra – charge more! You should be rewarded for your creativity and time! Besides, I think that anyone who would balk at paying $1 is probably more concerned about the whole online payment issue and not the $1 cost. In other words, you might as well charge more, because people who would pay $1 would easily pay $3 or $4.
I’m with Alexandra and Ellen!
